F.A.Q. (Frequently Asked Questions)
Last Updated Sunday, April 10th, 2005

I will be adding questions and answers when I find it necessary for it to be posted here. I will edit this post accordingly, and announce it.

A. Generic Questions:
  1. Who began Origin? Who is who?
Read History of Origin for a detailed history of Origin's development, and Staff Listings: Past and Present for a list of all members who was (and sometimes, IS) once staff on Origin, contributing to its development.

  2. What do I do if I see a problem with the website?
Just make a topic in this forum (Origin Related) and state the problem. The staff will clear the problem as soon as possible. Don't hesitate to report it, we are just as eager as you in correcting a problem.

  3. What's so good about ascending to higher ranks (Nobilities, etc)?
The Benefits of Being an Honorable Member will clear that question up.

  4. A mod or admin closed my topic but I need it open. What do I do?
Just PM an administrator such as myself (GRAND) or a moderator. Give a valid reason for why you want it open, and we will be happy to re-open it for you. Valid, meaning reasons such as "I have something to add to it...", not "I want it open so I can spam it for money!".

  5. What can I do regarding old topics?
There's just four things you need to know about old topics, regardless of their age: (1) If the topic is open, you may post in it; (2) If a topic is open but has '[*]' in its description, then it has simply been cleared of spam. You can still post in it as long as your post is on-topic; (3) If a topic is closed, you may not post in it. You can, however, PM an admin if you think it should be re-opened; (4) If a topic is closed and has a '[*]' in its title, then it has been closed and archived, meaning it is essentially a "Read-Only" topic now.

  6. What if I have more questions to ask?
If you have questions, first check old topics here (Search function is your friend!) If you find no relevant topic, then feel free to start your own. If we find your question to be generic and commonly asked, it will be placed here.

B. Skin Related Usage and Feature Questions:
  1. How do I close the left / right navigation bar?
It's simple, change your skin. The Lite forms of each Full skin has the left / right navigation bar, and the Board Statistics bar turned off

  2. But I want those features; I just don't want to load so long!
Then turn to Main Lite, the lite form of Dark Blue. The images are not as beautiful, nor do you have as many features, but its load time is much quicker, because it is the skin optimised for search engines!

  3. Is there an alternative to the Navigation Bar?
Of course! There is a drop-down menu next to the skin-selection drop-down that allows you to navigate anywhere, just like the left / right navigation bar, but saves you the space and load time! This is the way to navigate directly, if you are using Lite skins.

  4. How do I help Origin save Bandwidth?
Simple! By using lite skins, it not only takes a shorter time to load, but it is also saving Origin some bandwidth! For more information, read B2 (Section B, bullet 2). We thank you for helping us save bandwidth!

C. Behavior Questions:
  1. What if member X spammed my topic? My friend's topic?
If you see any inappropriate behavior, especially the act of spamming someone's topic, by any member, feel free to report the post by using the REPORT button which is next to each and every post. Thank you in advance for helping us make Origin a cleaner place!

  2. X, Y and Z's signatures / avatars annoys me. What should I do?
If it annoys you, but does not break the rules, then you can turn off Avatars and / or signatures in your control panel. If it breaks the rules in any shape or form, then please report the member (the one whose signature is against the rules) to Garlic Junior, or myself (GRAND).

  3. Member X just insulted my religion! (Or anything like that) What do I do?
Report that post / member to an administrator immediately. If his / her behavior does not cease (Assuming the member is allowed to stay), then you are free to put that member on your IGNORE list (Also can be set in My Controls). The ignore list allows you to ignore any post or message that member makes: you just don't see it.

D. RPG Related Questions:
  1. What is the RPG?
This unique board is equipped with a RPG system. This guide will explain about the different ways to manage the RPG.

  2. How do I choose an RPG Profile?
Choosing your personal RPG profile is simple and quick. First you go to My Controls (Top right corner of page) and go down to "Personal Profile". Then click on the first link under it "Edit RPG Profile". From there, you can choose your RPG profile that will be incorporated all throughout your battles. If you wish to analyze the factors of each class, race, or type, please go to the link labeled "Stat Factor Chart" under "Miscellaneous Links" in the Shop (top-right navigation bar). That lists the factors of each class, race and type.

  3. What are others' RPG Statistics, and how do I view them?
Next to everyone's posts are their RPG statistics. The HP depends on your posting averages. In order to have a full HP (health points), you must commit at least 10 posts per day, average to Origin. The MP (magic points) rises as your post count rises, directly. In order to solve for it, you divide your postcount by three and round that. That number should be your MP. The rest of your statistics rise as your level rises (Which is also based on post count). The higher your level, the harder it is for it to grow. Your Experience points keep track of how many percent you have reached until you reach the next level.

  4. How is my level calculated?
For every time your postcount increases tenfold, the level triples. For you math geeks, level = [3log10 %postcount%] where %postcount% is the cumulative posts you have in forums that increase your count, and the brackets indicate the "largest integer not exceeding the value" (For you programming geeks, it's the floor() function).

  5. How do I view what other members have in their inventory?
Looking at what others have in their inventory is fairly simple. You just click on "RPG Profile" and a new window pops up. The new panel lists the items they own in their inventory, their SHOP PRICE (Price paid), STOCK (Number of that item the member owns), and RESELL PRICE (How much they will get for re-selling the item). It also shows what they can and cannot do with the item. These information are vital during battles.

E. Money System Related Questions:
  1. Why did my zeny decrease since I last logged on?
Your zeny decreases when we delete posts we deem unnecessary. It is to prevent members from spamming to get money, and get rewarded for it. If their spam are deleted, the member loses the money they gained from that particular post.

  2. How much money do I get for registering?
You get 500 zeny to begin with, when you register.

  3. How much money do I get for a poll?
You get a base of 150 zeny per poll, meaning the actual post that goes along with it will increase your total earnings.

  4. How much money do I get for a topic?
You get a base of 100 zeny per topic, meaning the actual post that goes along with it will increase your total earnings.

  5. How much money do I get from making a post?
You get a base of 50 zeny per post, plus 100 zeny for every 20 words you make. You also get a bonus amount of money equal to 2% of your post count. For example, if you have 1000 posts, you get 10 bonus zeny for every post you make. These are cumulative, and can be combined with New Topic and New Poll earnings. (The two above)

  6. Do I get any money from words I quote?
You can get credit for a max of 250 words, meaning if you an extensively long quote, you may get a max amount of 1,200 zeny alone, from the quote. Do not abuse it, or we will punish you.

  7. What are "debit cards" and their uses?
Debit cards are items that you can buy at the Bank which increases your interest and gives you the ability to purchase directly using your bank account. The term recently replaced the older, wrongly used, term "Credit Card".

F. RPG Clan Questions
  1. How do I join a clan?
In order to join a clan, the leader of it MUST invite you to it. If they have not, it is advised you PM them asking for an invitation. Then, after the invitation is given, you may go to the Clan controls page (Top right corner of page) and click "Join if Invited". It automatically places you in the clan you were invited into. If you were invited by multiple leaders, you will be placed into the clan that invited you LAST.

  2. How do I leave my clan?
If you wish to quit or leave a clan, you may do so by going to the Clan controls page (Top right corner of page) and clicking "Leave Current Clan". Now you are a clan-less citizen of Origin, and you are free for anyone else to invite you.

  3. I don't like my current clan, how do I switch clans?
Switching clans is very simple. First, you leave the clan you are currently in. (Read above) Then you ask for an invitation to the clan you wish to switch to. After the invitation is given, you may go to the Clan controls page (Top right corner of page) and click "Join if Invited". (Read "How do I join a clan?")

  4. I want to purchase my own clan. How do I do that?
If you wish to purchase a clan, first make sure that you have 100,000 zeny cash on hand. That will be required in purchasing a clan. After you confirm that you have 100,000 zeny cash, you may go to the Clan controls page (Top right corner of page) and click "Purchase a Clan". From there, type in the name of the clan you wish to purchase. Then submit the form, and your clan should be created.

  5. I just purchased a clan. How do I invite members into my clan? (LEADERS ONLY)
First confirm you are the leader of a clan you own. You must be one in order to be able to invite members to your clan. After you confirm that you are the leader, go to the Clan controls page (Top right corner of page) and click "Invite a member to your clan". Then you type in the name of the member you wish to invite (Not Case-Sensitive). Then submit the form, and they should be invited. In order for them to be in your clan, they have to accept. (Read "How do I join a clan?")

That's all for now.

Hopefully you will add that "If you have a problem with the way a member is acting, report their post(s), and PM Grand and Haven" and "If you notice someones signature breaks the rules, PM Garlic Junior" and "If you need urgent attention to a matter, or just need something simple done such as a topic closed etc, PM whichever Staff member is online at the time. If there is none, PM Grand" or something?

But ... great idea dude sbiggrin.gif

New Additions:

Section A Part 3: What's so good about ascending to higher ranks (Nobilities, etc)?
The Benefits of Being an Honorable Member will clear that question up.

Linking the topic will allow this topic to serve as the one-stop place for frequently asked questions.

Section A Part 5: What can I do regarding old topics?
There's just four things you need to know about old topics, regardless of their age: (1) If the topic is open, you may post in it; (2) If a topic is open but has '[*]' in its description, then it has simply been cleared of spam. You can still post in it as long as your post is on-topic; (3) If a topic is closed, you may not post in it. You can, however, PM an admin if you think it should be re-opened; (4) If a topic is closed and has a '[*]' in its title, then it has been closed and archived, meaning it is essentially a "Read-Only" topic now.

I essentially took Garlic's post of clarification from the news and put it here, so I may unpin that.

Section B Part 1 and 3: I replaced all the "left navigation" with "left / right navigation" because obviously not all skins have the navigation on the right or left.

Section D Part 4: How is my level calculated?
For every time your postcount increases tenfold, the level triples. For you math geeks, level = [3log10 %postcount%] where %postcount% is the cumulative posts you have in forums that increase your count, and the brackets indicate the "largest integer not exceeding the value" (For you programming geeks, it's the floor() function).

For you other math nerds ^_^

Section E Part 7: Replaced "Credit Cards" with "Debit Cards." We changed the name a while ago.

And, a few grammar/punctuation corrections here and there. Enjoy!
