A girl stumbled in, wearing a long black wool coat that was obviously made for someone much taller and broader than she. Her brown curly hair was pulled back into a ponytail, with a few tendrils flying free around her face. As usual, her nose was buried in a book, and she wasn't watching where she was going. she tripped on a chair leg and started falling to the ground.

"Raven!" Jasmine called from across the room, after seeing her friend come in. She loved the girl, but god knew she was about the clumsiest soul that ever lived. If Jas hadn't been programmed to watch out for her, the girl would probably be dead by now.

A man walked into the tavern, an aura of mystery about him. He stood well over six feet tall, and had strong, masculine features. His body was covered in a dark blue cloak, deep golden eyes staring out from the darkness under the hood, giving chills to all whom they looked upon. As he approached the counter, he pulled back his hood, revealing a handsome and well-toned oriental face, covered with the stubble that several days without shaving will leave. His hair was a deep golden brown, and hung down to his shoulders, loose strands hanging over his face.

Pulling his cloak back over his shoulders revealed white hakamas (skirt-like samurai pants), a set of tabi and zri (split-toe socks and straw sandals), and a white juban (under-kimono) covered by a blue kimono. His hands were wrapped with white tape, and on his side were two swords in black sheaths -- a hanzou (long samurai sword) and a katana (short samurai sword).

Sitting down, he looked to the bartender, and spoke with a clear oriental accent, A bit of ale, please, if you would.

Raven moved like lightning, pushing a chair across the room just in time for the girl to land in it upside down. He shook his head, knowing that, like him, she was a regular, but she often was a bit uncoordinated. He slowly got up, and walked over to her, picking her up and sitting her down the right way. He dusted her off, then picked up her book and handed it back to her.

"How was class?"

The girl blushed as Raven righted her and handed her the book.

"It was fine. Boring. I kind of zone off and only caught about half the notes."
Jasmine served the newcomer his drink, unfrazzled by his nationality, though many people disliked his kind.

"Enjoy," Jas said before looking over to her friend, now safely seated in a chair. "Hey, Chrissy. How're things in your world?"

"Fine, thank you." she turned to Raven. "And thanks for catching me."

Raven bowed low, then smiled, and offered a prayer in his tongue for good luck, before walking back over to his seat by the fire. He hoped to eat his breakfast quickly, but figured it would be a good idea to stick around. That was how he usually spent his days, avoiding getting embroiled in the various wars that went on, and doing his best to protect these people from whatever may happen. As he sat down, he looked up at the bouncer, who just then walked in through the doors. He shook his head, seeing the big man rubbing his face.

Justinian remained silent, and appeared as though he was ignoring the things that were going on around him. He sipped at his ale with his eyes closed, seemingly concentrating on something. Visions of his dark past haunted his dreams at night and tortured his mind during the day. His childhood had been less than enjoyable, and to say he was mistreated was a serious understatement. As a young child, he feared his father greatly, and eventually, that fear turned into anger. Anger turned into hatred, hatred to malevolence.

The horrified screams of those that were unfortunate enough to come in contact with his swords haunted him to this very day, though as a teenager, he found them quite appealing. He carried his swords for protection, but four years ago, he made a promise to himself that he would never again take an innocent life. Although the sadistic urge to slit the throats of those that angered him was still present, the horrible memory of one certain event that happened four years prior remained active in his mind, effectively preventing him from causing meaningless bloodshed.

He continued to sip at his ale, eyes closed, but ears open. He listened and took in everything around him, as he had during the few months he had been blindfolded and tortured, many years ago.

Jasmine sneered at the asian man for a moment, thinking he was ignoring her out of some sense of superiority, but went about her work. She laughed as she saw Chrissy blushing and stuttering, trying to say something to Raven. Not that she could blame her. Raven was nice to everybody. It was no wonder Chrissy was infatuated with him. Still, she kept a close eye on her friends. She didn't want either of them getting hurt. Soon the breakfast rush left and the lunch rush came pouring in, so Jas was too busy to reflect on the fact that she'd just considered Raven a frienda title she bestowed on very few people.

Raven looked at his watch, and smiled. He had managed to get halfway through his new book in only a few hours. That meant he might get through it before he left for home. His tower library was a quiet place to read, but he preferred the atmosphere of the tavern. The people were usually friendly, and were enjoying themselves. It made it easier to envision the characters in the books.

Mark was just walking in when a cloaked man ran out of the bar. Mark noted the occurance as something unusual, but he decided it would be better if he just showed up on time. He took a step inside. The disorder in the room was obvious, as something strange had happened. Mark noted the pile of sand-- sand?-- in the corner of the room.

"Wh-- What happened?"

No one seemed to know exactly, only that a fire had broken out and that then the man had run away. After hearing of this, Mark quickly began to help the other employees clean up the mess.

Jas saw Mark come in and immediately start cleaning up. She gave a nod of approval. She'd always known he was a good kid. Responsible.

"If any of you ever sees that guy come in here again, throw him right back out. All he does is mess up my bar."

Chrissy saw Mark come in as well. She sat up straighter and ran a hand through her frazzled hair, trying to tame it. Jasmine laughed at her. The poor girl was in love with love, and Mark was her latest victim. "Ease up, Chrissy. Leave the poor guy alone." Chrissy huffed and went upstairs to raid Jasmine's bookcase, desperate for something new to read. Jas exchanged an amused but exasperated look with Raven.

Raven saw the exchange, then chuckled. Chrissy was an odd one, that was certain. He looked up, and grinned as Jasmine fired a look of exasperation at him. He flagged her down to place an order for lunch, writing it down on a piece of paper pulled from one of his many pockets. Monte Cristo sandwich and tomato soup, one of his favorites.

Jasmine grumbled as the strange men left, then went back into the kitchen to start on the sandwich. She really needed some more help, pronto. When she looked through the window into the tavern, Chrissy was still making cow eyes at Mark. Ah, to be young and in love...

((We've already had a bar RP descend to global war in the past.... Good call.))

"All done."

The bar had been cleared of sand, and Mark took a moment to look over his work. But it was only a moment-- he was immediately busy getting someone his drink. True, working at the bar did get busy at times, but Mark enjoyed being around so many different people. Somehow, it just made him happy. He recieved satisfaction from feeling that he was a part of the adventures of the travelers. Working at such a lively place-- it was fun.

When things calmed down a little, Mark stood at the bar waiting, next to Odd.

"Quite a busy day today, Mr. Odes-- Odd."
