In a world covered by endless water...

People are forced to eke out a living on the small patches of land that remain above the sea. The people of this world rely on ancient technology driven by quantum refractors, a powerful energy source. These refractors lie in ancient ruins underground and in the sea and are sought out by explorers called Diggers.

These brave explorers are the sole source of refractor energy which has become a cornerstone of the emerging civilizations. Originally, this was the Diggers' only purpose; to find refractors so that civilization would endure. However, over the years, the story of an incredible treasure, the legendary Mother Lode, began to be whispered among the Diggers.

The Mother Lode... A treasure so great that were it discovered, it would provide so much power that the world need never fear of running out of energy.

In search of this Mother Lode, Diggers travel from one island to another in their flying machines ever hoping that they'll find what they seek just over the horizon.

Hope…
Despair…
Charity…
Greed…
Duty…
Power…

Who can say what truly motivates the Diggers?

CAUTION: AT TIMES, THIS GAME WILL PORTRAY ITS CHARACTERS IN AN INTIMATE AND POSSIBLY SEXUAL NATURE. IN ADDITION, THERE MAY BE MOMENTS OF EXTREME VIOLENCE AND/OR BLOOD AND GORE. READER DISCRETION IS ADVISED.

This “water world” of sorts is called Terra. Our characters will be a team of Diggers who retrieve quantum refractors (powerful crystals that vary in size and color, used for energy) and then sell them to various companies, cities, and governments, while keeping an eye out for any hints to the whereabouts of the Mother Lode.

Under the surface of Terra are millions and millions of tunnels and caves, usually referred to as “Ruins”, because they are remnants of an ancient civilization: In the time before time, those that are now known as the Ancients created an enormous underground world, sometimes also referred to as the Underground. They created the crystals we call quantum refractors, and each crystal, depending on size and color, holds a certain amount of energy (see the refractor guide, below).

Diggers travel into the Underground and locate the refractors that where left there by the Ancients. However, this can be very dangerous, because the Ancients also left self-operating machines to guard the Underground, called Reaverbots. Reaverbots come in many shapes, sizes, and models, and will not stop defending the Ruins until they are disabled.

In addition to the technologies of the Ancients and their Underground Ruins, they must beware of air pirates, who prey on young Diggers and steal their refractors, and whatever treasures they may have attained on their last Dig (the act of going into the Ruins is called a Dig).

Travel between the many islands of Terra is primarily by air ship. Large, passenger-class ships transport people in the same manner that an airplane does, however, smaller, more agile ships are used by Digger crews and the like. There are also cruise ships and various other classes.

In some cases, when islands are very far away from one another, each one is controlled by a separate government. Single-city islands are run by a Mayor. Multiple-city islands have a Mayor for each city and then a Governor for the entire island. In some areas, however, a few islands are very close, and are all controlled by a President, who has a Governor for each island and a Mayor for each city. Even if some islands are independent, almost all Mayors and Governors communicate regularly with Presidents.

The biggest known leader is President Stephen Stoneguard, who controls the United Empire. The Empire is made up of islands close and far. Twelve Governors and nearly fifty Mayors, The United Empire is the biggest nation to date.

Also, I feel I should tell you a bit more about Digger crews. Normally, each crew consists of five Diggers and a Spotter, who stays on the surface and communicates with the team via radio. The Spotter can scan the Ruins, giving him/her a sort of radar, and can inform the Diggers if Reaverbots are near. Here is a link to the Reaverbot types used in the game.

Quantum Refractor Guide

Small: Can be used for cars and smaller ships.
Medium Small: Can be used for larger machines.
Medium: Can be used for warehouses and factories.
Medium Large: Can be used for smaller towns and cities.
Large: Can be used to power an entire city of a medium size.
Huge: Can be used to power enormous metropolises and massive machines.

Green: This color means the said refractor will die out quick.
Yellow: This color will last a but longer before running out of power.
Blue: This color will last a fairly long time.
Red: This color will last a very long time.
White: The most valuable and rare color. These last for years and years before burning out. A Huge or Large White Refractor has never been found as of yet (rumors suggest that the Mother Lode is a chamber full of Huge Whites).

I don’t want to leave you will many pages of stuff to read, so I will leave this part at this and if it’s needed, I’ll give you more info OOC.

So, I need five other players. Four will be Diggers, and one will be a Spotter. The six of us have just gained our Digger’s Licenses, and the game will start with us gathering at the air field in Liberty City, which is where we took the tests. We have just purchased a used air ship, the Flutter, and are preparing to set out for our first adventure. Also, a Spotter is still part of the Digger crew and therefore must have a Digger’s License as well.

Your backgrounds can be whatever you want, but just include that the six of us met when we arrived to take the Digger exam. The legal age of consent in this world is sixteen, therefore one must be at least that age to attain a License. Whether your character has just turned sixteen and got his License or he is older and pursued some other career before taking the exam is up to you. Either way, all six met during the twelve week Digger course.

On a side note, every month has twenty-eight days, meaning four weeks exactly. All holidays are still the same, however.

PM me your characters, but remember I need only four Diggers and one Spotter. You can look at my character for the format I’d prefer, and please send a character portrait, whatever it may be. The Character Database will be added as a reply to this. Also, the game is called MegaMan, but that does not mean you can be MegaMan. You’ll find out later on why I’m still using that title.

The current year is 1997 D.A. (Discovery of the Ancients) and it is the beginning of June.

Wil laughed at the young woman's excitement. He wondered if she'd be so excited when Reaverbots attacked. He shrugged, and checked over the auxiliary controls. He knew Ella was at the main board, but anything could happen. That was why they had auxiliaries. He figured they'd better be ready in case any of the bigger bots figured their ship was a snack.

"Everybody ready? Then let's go. Time and Tide wait for no man...or woman, as the case may be."

Hades smirked and rolled her eyes at what the other two had to say before finishing up her drink and throwing the container away in a trashcan. "Won't this be a fun little field trip."

Max looked slightly taken aback by Rain’s sheer excitement at the concept of going deep underground and facing deadly machines in confined corridors. “You…uh… do know what we have in store, right? We’ll be facing Reaverbots, we’ll be on their turf, trying to steal the treasures they are programmed to defend. They won’t show us mercy, they can’t be reasoned with. They will not stop until we kill them, or they kill us…”

"Way to be optimistic, Max." Ella said sarcastically. "It is kind of exciting, going on our first real mission on our own. We should all try to look at it the way Rain does."

Wil raised an eyebrow, then shook his head. "Or we could be more realistic and look at it from personal experience. I lost my arm to those things, and my father lost his life. It's no joke at all. Still, if we aren't having fun, our job isn't worth doing."

"That is true, Will." Hades agreed. "Though, even jobs need a bit of fun in it, don't you think?"

"You guys get to be adventurers. That's got to be exciting. You can shoot bad-guys and help make peoples' lives better. What could be more fun than that?"

"Getting chicks." Hades mumbled as she took the last bite of her sandwhich.

“And I third it,” said Max with a smile. “Well, we’re just waiting on Rage now.”

“Put that s*it away,” said Max, a bit insulted at the way Rage had kicked the door and marched into the Bridge. “We don’t want you drunk while we’re handling heavy weapons. Just settle down, dude.” Max looked at him again with a disapproving glare, then turned to Ella.

“Well, I think we’re ready to go. Let’s start up those engines.” Max and Ella pressed a few buttons on the control panel, readied the refractor drives, and initiated flight. The Flutter rose straight up into the air slowly, shaking slightly. Once they were high enough so that the city below looked like a circuit board, Max input the coordinates of their destination, which for the time being was a small uninhabited island about five hours away. With a final push of the big red button, the Flutter set off forward at a sustained speed of 115 MPH.

"Why're you drinking so early anyways Rage?" Hades asked, curious and slightly pissed at how Rage just carelessly entered the room, perhaps, even damaging the door and maybe other things on the Flutter.

"Oh, Don't worry I didn't break it I just..uh...umm...fixed it yea fixed it in a violent manner." Oh yea, Why am I drinking this early" said Rage as he tried to think up of an excuse. "It's go time OOORAH, time to shot up some F**king reaverbots, man and I can fix that stupid door later."

"So, where are we going, Max" I hope it's a nice place with women and a bar because after we are done. We have to get wasted...well on second thought I can get wasted, While you all drive the Flutter.

"Why is everybody so pissed at me... I'm just drank one bottle..ONE BOTTLE", screamed Rage. "Anyways I'll stop drinking for everybody here." "HAPPY", Rage said jokingly.

Max turned and looked at Rage sternly. “Perhaps we made a mistake in allowing you to join our team. If you plan to stay with us, you had better get your attitude under control.” he said with a warning voice. He rarely ever looked this serious, but Rage was being extremely obnoxious right then, and Max feared he may be a liability down in the Underground.

"You know, we always have extra rope and duct tape that we can use." Hades suggested as she peered at a console at random.
