Important: Before you do ANYTHING, be sure to do a COMPLETE reload of Origin XT by pressing CTRL+R. The style sheets were heavily modified so if Origin looks strange to you, be sure to recache the CSS (style sheets). If that doesn't fix things, clear your browser cache and cookies, and relogin to Origin XT.

Synopsis: What you see right now (after a clean reload, of course) is an Alpha Preview of XT Version 2—the next release of Origin XT. As it is a preview, many things are still subject to change, such as the banner (which still looks not-so-gorgeous—perhaps worse than before) and the color palette. But the general sense of things—the tabs, the insertion & subjugation of forum navigation (among other things) into the website wrapper, the clean, logical feel of things will all remain, in one form or another. What all that means is that I am fully open to critiques, suggestions, offers of help as of now, to help me mold the final stages of Origin XT.

Details: For this version, I went for the direct, logical, professional and clean (and compact) feel. I hope you can see that. The tabs organize Origin into distinct, yet interconnected, sections or parts (the active tab is reddish, and they use NO javascript at all). The wrapping of individual parts around the encapsulating wrapper of Origin XT further emphasizes that logical connection between Origin as a network of web-services and the individual parts themselves. The color scheme follows a natural coloring law of dark, light, dark in order to emphasize the portion of largest contrast (the content), and separate the inside from the outside. These reasons are why Origin now has this "feel."

The compact organization is done with a single Members' bar and the integration of Member Functions (login for guests and skin-change dropdown for members) into the navigation line. Figure out the rest stongue.gif

What else is planned? I am also working on features to make creating XT articles much more simplified, such as standardized and uniformly clean tags for headings, subheadings, and block-indentation features, etc. At the same time, I am also adding in more XT settings to do things such as satisfy some of the Luddites like Odd (who apparently isn't here right now) stongue.gif

Right now, I am asking for everyone's suggestions for anything—particularly for the color palette and the logo, both of which I think can use a lot more work. Also, it'd be nice if someone can transparent-ize the post buttons! Thanks for your time ssmile.gif

I've posted an topic at our affilliates, The Center for feedback. As you can see, the main gripe is that the style is very much "default". Obviously I explained that you are 100% working on the coding and I am 100% on the articles, so we don't have the time to do graphics just now, but it might be something we could start looking into.

Entri has said he'd give it a try if we gave him specifications of what we needed/wanted, so do you have any idea what the overall graphics design is going to be like or is there any more info we can give about it, as I am pretty clueless myself when it comes to skins and the like.

Also, I think we should start networking with The Center a bit more. They have an bunch of excellent RPGs going on, Mafia, which I think a lot of people here would like, and so long as you are active in the game there should be no problem signing up. Also, there is far more activity in the Manga and Anime sections of The Center than there are here, and vice-versa we have a more active debate forum and technology forums. I'm just thinking we should start being a bit more active in The Center if we are going to remain affiliates.

Currently, I believe the templates & designs of Origin will be pretty much final, with slight modifications. What do need changes and updates are the css files, the images, and, if possible, a recoding of the templates to more efficiently use CSS. In response to the concerns, I've reverted the default skin back to the dark one. Thank Entri for his offer ssmile.gif If he insists, tell him to design images and color themes, and not worry too much about the templates and interface. That part's intuition, and I think I got it down.

I do agree that we should network more with the Center. We do have very complementary categories, and we'd do quite well as partners rather than competitors

Indeed, very much so.

Well, if you re-read that topic I linked, Entri has offered to help with banners and graphics if we tell him what we need (what do we need?), also webhead will be updating The Center's main sites so he has offered to help with colour frames and CSS, so... I don't have a clue what any of that stuff means, so perhaps you would be better PMing him yourself and talking techy? ssmile.gif
