I vote PHP because its syntax is much simpler to use, it has a huge amount of power and a whole slew of functions and it's rising in popularity. What do you choose? Please provide a response as to why you chose what you did.

I've heard of ASP but I have no clue what it is. I know what PHP sort of is and have used it.

I like PHP over ASP simply because ASP is a proprietary technology owned by Microsoft, controlled by Microsoft, and part of Microsoft's strategies, and because PHP is an open-source web platform developed by non-MS programmers.

Oh and I've used PHP more and it runs Origin ssmile.gif

I've always thought PHP was much better than ASP anyway. That's why I convinced my computer science professor to teach Intro To Databse next fall in PHP and not ASP.

ASP I heard is much more powerful, but simply because it has more direct system control.

I've actually heard that PHP and ASP have about the same power when it comes to databases. However, PHP is actually more secure.

Yeah, the reason is that PHP is much less powerful because it doesn't have direct access to vital system functions.

Hmm, makes sense. But why would you use ASP to do that anyway? I'm kinda new to this whole internet programming thing.

Corporations like to use ASP more simply because it can function like a remotely-accessed application, not quite like just a script. ASP is a programming language; PHP is a scripting language.

Also keep in mind that ASP.NET is OO based and uses the full power of C#/VB.NET (as opposed to ASP's reliance on VBScript/JS)

Actually, to continue this interesting discussion further, it may be that ASP is out of date because of ASP .Net. I know that my IIS server on Vista does not support ASP, but only supports ASP .Net.
