I'd like to start out by saying that I basically scrapped the old basis for the RP, meaning it will no longer have anything remotely to do with our clans, or the old planet that I believe Jingy designed. This RP is meant to be original (at least I hope), while still keeping the idea of using real-life friendships and forum names as the basis for interaction. Keeping in mind that you can adapt to these supposed limitations, you must realize that there are actually very few restrictions for this RP. You have the freedom to do anything you want as long as you don't break the "rules" of the RP. Also, please remember to turn off your signatures when you post in this RP. Now, let's start this up, shall we?

The New O33 - Timeshift

->Message Log - Entry: 7/18/09; 6:33 PM
As I write this, my team and I are preparing to open the door to another dimension. We are all excited, to say the least, as this will be the single greatest scientific achievement in history. This opens the door to understanding our universe, which was previously believed to be impossible. If successful, we may even be able to unlock the secret to....time travel. I am trying not to get my hopes up though, as this experiment could fail miserably.

As a side note, our containment of this experiment is more important than its success, which is where most of our real preparation is being focused. Then again, if we do everything right, containment won't be necessary. We are simply safeguarding ourselves from our own mistakes.

->Message Log - Entry: 7/18/09; 8:42 PM
We are moments away from attempting to open the door. This message isn't even important. I'm just nervous. I suppose this log can serve to inform people if this turns out to be a mistake.

->Message Log - Entry: 7/18/09; 8:49 PM
It's incredible. The door has been open for several minutes now, and the energy feedback is astonishing. As a power source, opening the dimension could be immensely helpful to the world's future power supply. Containment is holding well.

->Message Log - Entry: 7/18/09; 8:53 PM
There was a minor containment problem that lasted approximately 7 seconds. As a precaution, though there seems to be no danger of a breach, we are shutting down the experiment for now.

->Message Log - Entry: 7/18/09; 10:02 PM
The door was open for precisely 9 minutes and 22 seconds. During this time, we recorded an astonishing amount of energy. The enormous amount of data is going to take weeks to analyze. At the moment, all we know is that it appears as though it is safe for further experimentation.

I am very proud of what we have accomplished.

->Message Log - Entry: 7/18/09; 11:06 PM
We decided as a group to open the door again. All previous precautionary measures are still in place. The containment field is functioning at 98%, which is easily enough for another test. This makes me feel a little greedy, but who wouldn't be feeling this way? This whole thing is incredible.

"This is insane."

Fear and anxiety were clouding his thoughts. What he saw before him was clearly impossible. Even though he prided himself on being able to keep a sharp and open mind, he found himself unable to come to terms with what he was looking at.

The boy who called himself Odd was staring out his window at the edge of a cliff which overlooked a lake that stretched nearly into the horizon. It was a beautiful scene, but that was not Odd's problem. His problem was that, until he had gone to bed the night before, his window had looked out upon the face of an apartment building, which mirrored the one in which he himself was living.

After staring at the sight for almost ten minutes, Odd finally peeled his eyes away from the window and dashed to the other side of the room. He tore open the door, and looked down the hall to the window that usually looked out into the alley of the neighboring complex. Even from a distance, he could tell he was not seeing the usual brown-brick exterior to which he was accustomed.

As he slowly approached the window, he began to realize he was instead looking into the dense foliage of what appeared to be a forest. Without hesitation, Odd teleported back into his apartment and turned on the TV, only to find that, while the TV seemed to be working, there were no stations to watch.

"What the f*ck!?" shouted Odd, who was beginning to think he going crazy, "I have to find someone else. There has to be someone else who's seeing this."

-----

Date: 07-19-2011
Starting Time: 8:09 am

"Two years ago today." Odd mumbled to himself, "Seems like it should be longer than that."

Even if two years had passed, it may as well have been an eternity with the changes that had taken place in the world he had once thought of as normal. He had investigated, to the best of his abilities, the "incident" almost endlessly for the first few months. Even then he had come up with next to nothing about what had happened. All he knew then was that where he was now was not where he had been 24 months previously. The only explanation he could come up with was that he and his apartment building had been sent to another dimension somehow. Strangely enough, none of the other tenants had been sent with him.

At first Odd had thought this was some kind of backlash from his unique power. His abilities could have been one explanation for his predicament. Then he had found someone.

During his first year in this new place, he had discovered many new towns and cities and people. The people, as far as he could tell, were normal, but nobody knew anything about the places he described while trying to find out about the incident. They all seemed clueless about the Earth he had known and loved. The people here all called this place 'Origin', and looked at him strangely when he spoke of other planets and alternate dimensions.

Then, after one year and two months, not long after he had accepted this new place and began trying to fit in, he found someone who understood his questions. At the time, it had appeared that the woman had just arrived in this place. She had been scared and confused, just as Odd had been. After getting just two of his questions answered, the woman had run from him. By the time he had tracked her down, she had taken her own life. Depressed for more than one reason, Odd had continued on, thinking repeatedly about her answers.

"Do you know what happened to Earth?" he asked the panicked woman.
"I...I....There was an accident a while back." she managed to say, "Th...There was an accident during an exper...experiment dealing with opening other dimensions."
"And?"
"The world...had been...it was like places just shifted in time randomly." she continued, "People disappeared....entire cities were replaced by...other things..."
"But do you know where we are now?" he asked, worried.
"I....no....NO I DON'T!" she screamed, as if suddenly remembering what had happened.

That was when she had run.

Not long after her appearance, maybe a few weeks, things started happening here as well, making him understand what 'other things' meant. It didn't take long for Odd to realize that the dimensions were slowly merging with each other. Still, the differences between this dimension and the one where Odd had come from were significant enough as things were. In this place, Origin, his power did not seem as out of place as it had before. Here, there were many people with unusual powers...and their numbers increased once the timeshifts began.

The shifts were also less dramatic than the ones on Earth had apparently been. Here, they occured about once every week or so, adding new landscape and occasionally bringing new beings along for the ride. As can be expected, the additional or new territory was highly sought after. After just the fourth 'shift', groups of people originally from this plain of existence began fighting over the land. The fighting escalated after each new shift, eventually dragging many innocent people into the conflicts. In addition, the new beings brought to this world were almost always dragged into hte fighting as well. Most were killed...but those with the ability to fight back and win, did so.

Three groups rose from the conflicts. One of them was known as the RT, or Rift Takers. Odd considered them to be the 'bad guys', if that could be said, as they were aggressive in their occupation of the new land, and tried to kill whatever they found there. Very rarely did they capture the beings they discovered, but the few they had imprisoned had earned them the simple nickname, the "Takers".

The second group, self titled "The Shield", were the 'good guys'. While their goal was the same as the RT, they were more of an occupational group that preferred to passively take control of the new land. If they found any foreign beings on the land, rather than killing them off, they tried their best move them away without conflict.

The third group was an assortment of the beings that had been transported in the shifts. Whether they were prisoners, free roaming, or dead bodies, they were all considered to be part of the group. The Shield, in their attempts to stay on better terms with the beings named the group the Animalian Guild. The name confused Odd though, as a clear majority of the beings in the group were human or humanoid variations. The Takers, who cared nothing about their relations with the outsiders, named the group the "Others". While not siding with the Takers, Odd felt that this name fit them better.

The Others, while small in number, were the true victims of the timeshift conflicts. Odd chose to side with them.

All of you should put some thought into this before you jump in. Obviously, I want you all on THIS plain of existence....this dimension. Your history can be whatever you want it to be, and you can join any of the three groups mentioned above, so long as you end up with the rest of us, on the Outer 33rd Dimension.

For reference to what the actual world is like, I ask that any new RP'ers who aren't familiar with the old O33 or Trilogies please go read some of the posts from the original topics (links below). If you still need help, PM me about what the setting will be like for this story. Just know now that we will be working with some kind of combination of modern and medieval technology....as in guns and swords.

It was too quiet. With no way to know where the car had stopped, Mia couldn't risk breaking out of the trunk without some kind of outside noise. She would be found out. Content to wait a little longer, she slowly shifted positions so that she would be closer to the inner trunk release. Without Odd's memories, she wouldn't have even known one existed.

Just a few moments after adjusting herself, Mia heard a muffled crashing sound, which repeated itself several times. Ambient noise, whatever the source, meant she could escape. She flipped the catch and quickly crawled out of the trunk. Before she could get to the side of the car to see what was going on, all hell broke loose.

CRASH!!!! Shadowflare cut down through the would-be assailant. the force of his landing rumbled the ground. More came and were made quick work of. Another one was behind a large pine, hoping he wouldn't be found.

"you all have no honor. hiding wont help you." Shadowflare said smugly.

The powerful demon stabbed his crystalline blade through the tree and out the front of a mans face. Then shadowflare cut through the side. the tree fell, making considerable noise.

"Listen to me, you must tell me who..." Roger but a finger to his lips. Even this strange and foreign girl recognized this universal symbol. The trees rustled. A branch buckled, creaked, and cracked... something had jumped. Shots were fired, slashing was heard.

"Damn... follow me, quickly." He knew she couldn't really hurt him, so he thought, "You can tell me what you're doing on the way."

Shadowflare, now covered with even more blood, heard some commotion from where the man and girl were.

"Damn, i need to get this offa me! they better not leave!" Shadowflare snorted.

Shadowflare made chase once more.

And when they list, their lean and flashy songs
Grate on their scrannel pipes of wretched straw,
The hungry sheep look up, and are not fed,
But swoln with wind, and the rank mist they draw,
Rot inwardly, and foul contagion spread.

She cursed herself, feeling as if the day itself had betrayed her. Shoulders taut, muscles strained as she held the dagger so tightly blood drained from knuckles, from wrist. She had no where to go, she knew it, felt it in the very openess of this cursed place. Disgust rippled over her visage, had her upper lip curling in open distaste, her rats' nest of hair obscuring the upper half of her face. With a quick movement of her chin, it fell back behind her shoulders, her dark brown eyes seeming to glint in the shadows. She could run away. but where would I go? she thought, morosely.

Vicereine had even opened her mouth to reply with some scathing retort when a crash sounded over to the side. Skin jumping, her eyes widened as fear slid behind the large disks of her eyes. Shrinking away from it, Vicereine barely checked the instinctive urge to take out her other weapon.

Trained on the general direction of the noise, Vicereine's mind began to race. It was obvious that she must choose her newest path, that whatever simple, and ideal plan she had been working on (walk and keep walking) was branching off into something else entirely. She could ignore this call of fate, could imagine herself managing to survive on her own, or rather, dying on her own, or ... the choice. She could go with this man, -- this man who sported a vehicle that had become increasingly rare, with the girl in the car that looked at them with open curiosity -- or ... to whatever had crashed down in the forest. She could probably evade it - whatever it was.

Fingernail tapping on the bridge of the hilt, she thought quickly, her mind wandering from point to point, scenes opening up behind her eyes - opening up and crumbling. Skewering the man where he stood with her gaze, she appraised him harshly: he was not necessarily pleading but spending far too much time bothering with her presence. So high and mighty. Her nose twitched, a habitual movement of thought before with deft movements took a step over the dead corpses with surprising ease and reached behind her and sheathed her dagger.

To say Vicereine trusted this man would be to urge a starving people over a frozen river in springtime. Fatal and risky business. However, the girl needed to be out of here - she had been heading into town, but she had planned to keep herself a nonentity and continue on. never stopping, her new goal was to live as long as possible outmaneuvering the scorge of the faithful. Irritation flickered across her face as she stood beside the man, a careful three foot space between them.

"Vicereine." she said, her voice soft, slightly husky. She would not have him calling her girl for the rest of the duration that she remained in his presence. Venom seemed to drip from her tone.

She saw the man with the girl. She saw the demon man turn and begin to race toward them. The demon's angle of approach kept him somewhat hidden from this now obvious military man. Mia couldn't let them both get killed. There was still a chance the man with the girl had good intentions.

Before the demon had a chance to close half the distance, Mia jumped, reappearing next to the girl. This close to her, Mia was able to notice how unkempt she was, which surprised her.

"The demon is coming for you!" Mia shouted, hoping her warning would be heeded over her sudden appearance.

Then she jumped back to the car, next to the passenger side door. As expected, the blonde girl was sitting there safely, watching everything unfold. Mia needed to find something out.

"Who the hell was that?" -- Roger hardly had time to speak before his training instincts took over upon turning his neck and seeing a large man with a giant sword barreling toward him and Vicereine. "I won't hurt you."

With that, Roger grabbed Vicereine with his right arm, and unsheathed his rappelling device with his left. He shot it at the top of a tree across the road from his jeep. The line took, and Roger pressed a button instantly launching the two of them into the air, heading for the tree. An instant short of colliding, he pressed the button again and the line slowly let out, lowering them down twenty yards from the vehicle.

As the two of them began springing toward the car, Roger noticed that the girl who had appeared was standing at the passenger door, facing the blonde girl. How did she get there so fast?

"Dammit!" Shadowflare noticed the alarm of the people around the jeep. He knew he had to disappear if he had any chance of finding this dwelling he had deluded himself into thinking to be a mansion.

Within a half of a blink he dashed to the side and hid among the shadows in the trees.

(OOC: umm, odd, how would your character know Shadowflare is a demon? He appears as a normal human.)

Vicereine swore when the girl appeared beside them; with one quick flick of her arm, the push dagger was in her palm, the three inch blade, heading toward the girl's throat before she disappeared as quickly as she had appeared. Everything was moving too quickly, she didn't have time to respond and it only further irritated her. There was no thought as to how someone managed to get so close and disappear without a trace; she was too concerned with the present, pushing thing behind the closed doors of her mind. Easily done, when one had lived a life as she had. Even without the issue of being shipped off into this dimension, her attitude toward the ambiguous nature of people, remained.

However, when he grabbed her, that was entirely different story. She snarled, her voice growing feral as she tried to yank her arm from his, glowering through black eyelashes as she was bodily hauled forward. But things shifted quickly as retreat became something else, fear sliding through her as she was pulled through the air. She didn't scream, though that was due to lack of time, of air in her lungs than any strength or aversion to fear. For fear was real in the dark depths of her eyes, in the pale complexion of her skin.

She swallowed thickly when she was placed upon ground again, vowed never again to have that happened to her. Looking over her shoulder, Vicereine saw another with a blade. It had been charging in their direction before ... her face turned in disgust. Before that. just thinking of all that air moving around her uncontrollably made her want to vomit. Particularly unsatisfied with this man's way of dealing with things, Vicereine almost didn't follow. Hurt me, indeed, she growled silently. Sheathing the dagger into its home strapped to her wrist, Vicereine barely followed, her mind beginning to doubt the decision she had made ... well the half decision she had made.

With one more glance toward the raging demon - or whatever it might have been, Vicereine reached the car, uncaring for her own wellbeing as curiosity began to take root. "I wonder what it wants." she tilted her head, wasn't sure if getting into the car would have been the best idea and just looked at the two other females. This wasn't right. Her instincts screamed at her to slip away and to remain hidden until nightfall. With the shadows, she'd be able to survive. Vicereine remained, controlled by curiosity, if nothing else.

Roger wasn't used to having someone straggle behind him as Vicereine was now. This was for two reasons: First, as a militant person, those following him never had the capacity to straggle... either too strong or too afraid. Second, people always trusted him. That this helpless girl with nothing in the middle of nowhere seemed quite resistant and tried to pull away really put his mind through a loop. He was helping her, for chrissake.

Roger reached inside his overcoat, pressed a button on the jeep's key, and all four doors flew open. "Get in!" Roger yelled across the car to the strange girl. She seemed harmless and tried to help, after all.

He turned to Vicereine, and motioned at her dagger. "You want to live, you give me that."

"s*it." Shadowflare knew he had scared them off. The man with the gray eyes seemed to be overly worried. as if it weren't just Shadowflare that frightened him.

The jeep kicked a cloud of dust from the old road and flew off.

"maybe this is a bit too much for to bathe... but i can't stop now." and by that note Shadowflare dashed off once more, but this time, behind the tree line.

Mia had barely gotten the girl's attention before the military man was nearby, racing to the car with the unkempt girl lagging behind. She hadn't seen how he had moved so quickly, but it wasn't as fast as her, so she let it go.

"Get in!" shouted the man as the car doors flew open.

Surprised by his accepting demeanor, Mia hesitated. She wished she had some sort of weapon, but with these developments, she was willing to go for a ride in something that wasn't a trunk for once. Then, for the first time, she noticed the insignia on the inside of the door.

Mia quickly scrambled into the car.

The Shield was far safer than the Takers. She only hoped the glowering girl who slowly got in the backseat with her was safe as well. She suddenly remembered a flash a steel when she had teleported and issued her warning. Strange.

She was hesitant; thoughts that had invaded her mind were convinced that something more complicated than this man's simple machinations was happening. He seemed the ignorant type. It was there, in the way he constantly pushed himself and others, a layer of himself readily available to public scrutiny, seeming to be placed there for that exact purpose. For a moment, Vicereine wondered what might have laid beneath. Then again, she was making the assumption that there was something more interesting, more humane in nature, or intelligence that lay beneath what she had presumed was a shell. That could very well be all he was; she would believe. Act first, think later. How utterly militiant, how flawed a plan. The girl almost smiled. Almost.

The only danger Vicereine had truly seen was offered by his own words, in the subtle threats he kept throwing at her, which conflicted with the I won't hurt you he had so nobly spoken. As far as she was concerned, the ... thing rampaging around hadn't truly offered threat, just .... violence. Silly perhaps, but Vicereine was used to dealing with extraordinary; that these people seemed to be so attuned to simply running away from it, made Vicereine wary of her own condition. Her fingers clenched, all of her blades shafely tucked away in their sheathes, unseen but for memory's knowledge.

That the man even dared to ask for it, to demand it as if it were his own, only made, in the girl's case, the situation much worse. Trust, he wants. No, Vicereine's lip curled. Obediency. Just like Jeremy.

And then they were moving, basically pushed into a car she didn't want to be in, she had very little time to settle in before the car jolted forward. Scrunching herself up in the corner of the backseat, Vicereine tucked a large knotted lock of hair behind one ear, one of her eyes coming into clear focus.

Looking ahead, Vicereine watched the hair from the girl in the front seat move, whipping around in the wind. Vicereine's eyes lowered, the girl in the front had not said anything, had simply let this man drag her around. Disgusting.

Shifting her attention, if not any particular body part, Vicereine appraised the woman beside her. She had appeared and then completely and utterly disappeared again. I suppose she wouldn't have to worry about being locked up, Vicereine thought, her mind beginning to brood. She had nothing, was nothing, but something about this situation was just pressing her proverbial buttons, and in the wrong way.

"I was better off on my own," she grumbled quietly, the roaring rage of the car as it dominated the earth the man drove over, drowned out most of her words. Tucking her legs up to her chest with chin resting on her kneecaps, Vicereine contained a sigh, looked behind her to where they had left the other one behind. Though she had not been leaning, When a particular bump had the car jerking, Vicereine yelped, her fingers scrambling for a purchase to keep herself inside as she was nearly tipped out. Though ...

She looked out, saw the ground racing beneath the tires, a blur that smeared across her vision and decided to kill the thought of trying to jump. That would be stupid. For a moment, her eyes rested on the man, whatever his name was, wondered if she just walked away once the car had stopped, if he would let her. It seemed plausable, it wasn't as if she was anything of particular significance. Mind churning, she bit her lower lip in thought, feeling the pressure of her sheathes pressing against flesh and sighed. She might not be the best, but her daggers gave her a sense of comfort that no man, or woman had ever managed to give her.

Roger drove along silently; as silent as his seamless shifts, yet just as with these there was a sense of noise. Anticipatory noise. Ears-perked thought-you-heard-something but really didn't noise. Every second he though someone in the car might say something... or that dirty girl might do something rash. She really didn't like his having her dagger. And then the expectancy that he was supposed to say something, that he should say something. But he didn't, and drove. on. He realized this was the first time he had ever picked up three girls in one day. He chuckled.

He realized now that with his small group of Shield men killed and his mobile camp sacked, he would have to go back to base, but he couldn't take these three there. By now, by his tuned senses, he was able to tell by their actions and personalities that they were indeed Others: The quiet, nervous one; the mysterious one come out of nowhere; and the rambunctious fighter. Though The Shield's mission was partly to stop the hurt of The Others, it wasn't something they went out of their way to do, and they certainly wouldn't want a bunch of them, however harmless, roaming about headquarters. He decided to take them to the temporary deplacement village near the base. It was a small city, with its own economy, yet was run and policed entirely by the Shield. It was a haven for lowlifes, some not even Others, hoping to make a living. It wasn't good, but it was the best the Shield could do. Most Others didn't spend more than a week there before being relocated, but some made the wretched place their lives.

Time: 12:46

"Ok," Roger said as he pulled the car up to the main gate of the deplacement camp, "I want you three to stay together. I have some business to attend to, and I'll be back in a few hours. Don't stray far from the entrance."

Upon seeing Roger's jeep, the officer at the gate quickly opened it. He saluted. Roger popped the doors. "Go on then, this is the best I can offer under the circumstances. I'm... sorry."

Shadowflare had managed to keep up with the jeep. It stopped at a large gate that surrounded a small village.

"dammit!" Shadowflare knew he shouldn't have gotten his hopes up. "what a friggin' hole! it looks like a hangout for rogue slaves. but... s*it, it'll have to do."

The great demon jumped over the gate, unnoticed by the guards who he figured had been warned of him.

"now, to get the blood offa me." Shadowflare looked at his coat that had blood crusted onto it.

Shadowflare walked about, hoping to find a source of water. Many saw his bloody trench and sword, and avoided him though most didn't seem to care.

"laundromat" it was an unfamiliar word to him, but he saw people washing clothes. after observing for quite some time the demon traded some gold for the correct change needed to use the laundry washing machines, and cleaned his clothes.

"ahhh" He felt relief in not smelling so much like a human "like washing away indignity".

He was too preoccupied to notice the security that didn't appreciate his weapon being shown off.
