Hello all,

We're gathering up a list of everyones academic majors for possible future use for this website. If you could be so kind as to tell us what your major is, we'd greatly appreciate it.

He originally said computer science and discrete mathematics.

I doubt he made such a dramatic change, considering the fact that he still works for a tech company

Ever seen Avenue Q's song on being an English Major? (What can I do, with a BA in English/Four Years of college...)

Never heard it, but I can imagine what they say... I'll search for it on iTunes.

Ok Ok people, back on topic.

Why I am a computer science major? -

I originally became one because there was nothing else I could do. Now that I've gotten into it some more, I actually kind of enjoy it. I like most of the people in the department and hanging out with them, talking about old video games and insulting Microsoft.

BTW - Did anyone notice Jiggles member number?

Yeah, I changed it for him at the beginning of his membership stongue.gif It just took a few database queries.

I am an EECS major because I feel that this is the major that I have the greatest opportunities in. It is practical, fun, stimulating, yet often challenging. I grew up with technical parents (my mom does semiconductor design and my dad does software) and a strong background in math, science, and everything technical. To put it briefly, I have a major comparative advantage in CS.

Speaking of comparative advantage, I am also doing economics because I think that's fun and (although not as useful for everyday work), I love having the ability to examine macroeconomic trends and discuss them with friends.

Business is also another practical interest. I love formulating and executing strategies, and business strategies are no different. If done right, it's also rewarding, personally and financially. I mean, even if you f—kup a company like HP and get fired, you still get over 13 million dollars in severance pay! Isn't that great?

So why am I a CS major....

I cannot afford graduate school, so I cannot major in pre-law or pre-med.
I'm afraid of organic chemistry, so science is out.
I don't like music, so music is out.
I barely passed English 1, so English is out.
I have a short attention span, so social studies is out.
I won't get accepted to any school with African American Studies, so that's out.
I don't take life too seriously, so I prolly should avoid Business.......
Since I can't do anything else, I used the process of elimination to major in Computer Science.

What about electrical engineering? Communications circuitry? Artificial intelligence? There are all sorts of things that you could have chosen.
