We will be using Subversion (http://subversion.tigris.org/) to share code. Read more about how it works by following the link. If you haven't installed Subversion before, install EITHER TortoiseSVN (http://tortoisesvn.tigris.org/) OR SlikSVN (http://www.sliksvn.com/en/download) (Don't install both).

Public viewers can go to http://game.originxt.com/ to see a recently-checked out version of what we're working on.

Registered developers can view what we have so far here: http://svn.originxt.com/OriginStrategyGame/

I have created accounts for myself, Joe and Angel. I will be PMing them their usernames and passwords after posting this.

If you want access, let me know and I'll create an account for you.

If you haven't used SVN before, here's a brief overview of how to use Subversion:
  • To check out the code for the first time, install Subversion if you have not already, and open command prompt (or terminal if you're on a *nix system). cd to where you want to check out the code, and type "svn co http://svn.originxt.com/OriginStrategyGame/". It'll ask for your username and password, and afterwards you will see the latest submits.
  • In order to receive updates that others have checked in, simply cd to the directory and type "svn up". It grabs the latest files and updates from the svn server.
  • If you created a new file that you want to add to the repository, simply type "svn add filename" (replace filename with the file or folder you want to add). You've now added it to the changes list.
  • If you want to rename a file or folder from A to B, don't do it directly. Do it via svn by typing "svn mv A B". Otherwise, you'll have to delete A from the repository and add B to it.
  • Finally, when you're satisfied with changes you've made, you can submit them by typing "svn commit". It'll open up a text area (depending on platform) where you describe your change, and after you save that, it'll submit to the repository. If it has an error, you probably don't have a default text editor. In that case, type svn commit -m "A short description of your change"
  • For other features, simply type "svn help". Some features that are useful to look at are "delete" and "revert"

This is a free extention so that you don't have to use the command prompt. You can commit/update/revert directly from Windows Explorer. (i think it works with linux but i havent tried it on one.)

What happens if you install both?

I'm just getting used to it. Now pretty comfortable with normal functions.
