Initial Thoughts: At $499, its very, very affordable. Good touchscreen, but I hate the iPhone keyboard. Good for eBooks. I don't think its a netbook or eBook killer yet. Sony has a comparable eBook that is very good and plays music. No camera. No support for Flash. 1.7 lbs.

What do you guys think? The commenters over at Gizmodo weren't very impressed.

I am unsure as of yet. I remember when smarter-phones first, first came out everyone just thought they were glorified phones, which obviously they've evolved beyond.

Is this a glorified kindle? Or a glorified iPhone? Maybe it just is. It also seems a bit impractical being so large. I just can't see people pulling it out on the subway or at the coffee shop, or even in their living room. That isn't to say that it won't take off—maybe it will. But unless it's ready to replace a laptop, which I don't see it doing, then it's probably not going to revolutionize much of anything.

Just some early thoughts...

Considering the specs, and how it would be useful to me, I might buy one a year after they come out, used, for half price, but not new. If they are hackable, I would be more inclined to buy one.

It would be a more compelling buy if I could write on it.

you cant write on it? With a high precision multi touch screen, it can't be written on? That's messed up.

I heard it only has 64 megs of ram. I would like to know why, in that size, they can't have a more powerful processor, and at least a gig of ram, or at least a half gig.

I don't think it's going to be running anything beyond internet explorers, movies, music, etc.

That still won't be enough, I don't think.

Honestly -- I feel like I could buy a cheap laptop and use skype for the price of that thing.

I think it would be plenty, considering the amount of things you can do with an 8 or 16 (or 32) GB iPhone.

And for now I think all it's meant to be is a 'cheap laptop' that does basic internet browsing, etc.

The better versions will probably come out before long, with higher ram and ability to run more simultaneous programs. And hopefully cheaper too.

But it's already starting to make the laptop seem more and more antiquated, imo. Once they make more improved versions, it won't be long until a big, hulky laptop that relies on a mouse pad and physical keyboard seems like a thing of the past. And the good news there is that laptops as we know them will get ridiculously cheap for those who prefer (or tolerate) them.

Hint: It can't multitask. One app at a time, so you don't need much RAM

I like multitasking. So unfortunately, until they get that going here, I'm not buying it.

Apparently some of the early reviews are great.

I'm really liking this idea that using a mouse isn't the only way to a user friendly display.

That being said, I'll still opt to wait for a future generation, and I still think it will make laptops look like absurd clunkers within 5-7 years.

I just want a gigahertz of processing, a half gig of ram, a quarter gig of video mem, and a touch screen, that runs XP, and has outs for USB. That's all I want. Can they just do that?

I want to play starcraft with a touchscreen wherever I go.

I'm sad that I can't use a pen on this thing. I was so excited when I thought I could use a pen...
