Initial Thoughts: At $499, its very, very affordable. Good touchscreen, but I hate the iPhone keyboard. Good for eBooks. I don't think its a netbook or eBook killer yet. Sony has a comparable eBook that is very good and plays music. No camera. No support for Flash. 1.7 lbs.

What do you guys think? The commenters over at Gizmodo weren't very impressed.

Did anyone honestly think it would stick around?

AT&T claims it will only affect a very small percentage of customers...and while the 2GB is $25/mo. each additional GB is $10, if I recall correctly. So unless you plan on streaming videos all day long, it's not much of a loss.

Beside, I don't see the iPad as a total replacement, but more as a supplement. I think it would come in quite handy while driving around, sitting in an airport, or waiting for a cappuccino (if your barista is as slow as I am, this will give you plenty of browsing time).

At this point, I'm about 70% sure that it would be a good investment, especially since it will take a little bit of pressure off of my overworked (but still going strong) MacBook.

(EDIT: "...think it will stick around" to "...think it would stick around")

Tethering would've been one of the compelling reasons for getting a 3g capable ipad.

Well, nevermind.

You mean to use its 3G capability to hook up to a laptop?

Yeah, you could do that with 3g enabled phones.

I have been going into the Apple store a lot lately, mostly because it's on my way, but I always play around on the iPad...talk about intuitive!

Yes. I intend to. I'm waiting for either 1. my lot to increase, or 2. the price to decrease.
