Read Nesticles' post and I remembered this link from NYT

Basically she took out lots of loans to pay for a better school. Now she's 100k in debt and can't pay her loans.

(if you click, everyone but al will lose sympathy)
SPOILER (click to show)

I know a lot of people here go to schools where they fork out the cash. I chose my school because it was essentially free. Of course, many of you might actually make quite a bit of money so it's probably a good choice.

I really didn't know you guys had the scientific equations down to a T in going off on schools and whether you would like it. In some sense, a lot of college choosing is your gut feeling. Can you SEE yourself there mingling with students? Can you see yourself sitting in class? Eating in the commons? Etc.

They could doesn't mean they should. My parents could too, but I made sure to factor in cost.

But then again, even aside from cost I'm fairly happy with Berkeley.

Laying around? No - they saved. A ton.

They also factored in what environment I would do best in. I could thrive in a UC environment, but given where things have gone -- and the fact that I am hardly honors material, I would not have been able to stand out, pick my classes or possibly graduate within four years.

Well, Berkeley might not be the best environment. Maybe SD would be a better balance of academia and everything else (i.e. beach)

SD would have been my choice, had I gotten in. SCU was still a solid buy after the 4 years, IMO.
