Huzzah! So things are amazing on this end; figured I'd vent my recent thoughts with you guys.

So, I have a sort of girlfriend these days. We cuddle, play video games, and watch Invader Zim, and share apples and peanut butter. And other crazy things like that; it's awesome!

I'm in the home stretch now for my Math and Computer Science majors. I have slew of solid recommendations for Graduate school in one of two programs, Computational Complexity or A.I and Machine Learning. I'll be applying for a Masters program in lesser Tier I schools, namely RPI, RIT, etc. as well as trying to utilize my foot in the door at Cornell. Afterward, I'd like to go to Stanford to finish up a Doctorate, and go on to research and teaching.

Lately, I've been preparing for another bout of writing for the Academy of American Poets. I got an invitation to become an Associate Fellow of the Academy, and I might wind up doing that.

And, I'm making a website and webcomic, written by myself and a number of others, and drawn by a college friend. It should be up in February.

How about you guys?

Your life sounds pretty fantastic ssmile.gif

I'm starting work this summer at Facebook (full time) after I graduate. I'll be there for the IPO and some time after that. It'll be an exciting few years!

Speaking of Stanford, I'll let Tricia speak about herself...

Excellent!

I'm starting two companies. One is a sole proprietorship which may turn into a partnership if business keeps up at where its going, and for this specific business, I am doing a lot of social media work for small and medium size businesses. Essentially they come to so that I can aid them in a digital marketing strategy across multiple platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn and a whole host of other things. In addition to integration I also do implementation, creative thinking, analytics work and good ol' fashioned consulting.

The other business I'm starting is more of a web application towards the apartment rental hunting space. I'm lead business development on that end and my company is chugging towards our initial beta. Not much else on that front, though I am thinking and brainstorming on monetization strategies with my business partner. What I'm most proud of here is that we have a designer on board from the very beginning, a critical element that I think a lot of small businesses seriously lack -- and big businesses too! I think Jinghao would disagree with me here in saying that a designer is what Microsoft (and other PC/Windows companies) severely lack. ssmile.gif

Outside of that, I also coach my college's debate team, network with fellow entrepreneurs and am helping others get to their dreams. Life is busy and exciting...who knows what will happen next.

Everyone's doing well, at least what they speak of. Excellent!

Aunt Jemima over here teeters on the verge of homelessness and despair on a daily basis. But the sun shine and the taps flow!

Wow, it sounds like everyone's doing some really exciting things! Life is really exciting for me, too. I'm currently applying to graduate school (for biology research - structural bio/biochemistry) and will be going on interviews all over the United States!

I wanted something to help me search for apartment prices, but I didn't see any real options. I wanted to be able to favourite x apartments and view daily prices for each apartment type they have (1b, 2b, etc). I had to call them up every day for prices, which is annoying. I used a free apartment service to find the non-price details i wanted (carpet, laundry, etc), but I really wanted that daily price list.

Sounds something similar to what I might be making. Apartment hunting in general is a b*tch.

I've dropped out of school, I'm homeless, I have no money, and I get by begging for food at a McDonald's, where I hang around most of the day to leech off of wireless. The alternator in my car went, and I don't have the money to fix it. Even if I did, I'd have nowhere to go, because my parents won't let me move back in with them. I've applied for several jobs, which is great when your phone bill is paid, but mine's not. I've had the flu for several weeks, and overall, I hate my life.

But I'm glad you're all doing well.

No. The alternator is fine. I saw him drive to McDonald's the first time.

Yeah, and then there's the roommate problem. There's no efficient incentive-compatible way to figure out how to get roommates and allocate the costs and rooms, and I don't just mean "nobody knows it yet" or "it hasn't been discovered yet" but that it's absolutely not possible. As long as you're on the Pareto frontier (aka your combined payments sum up to the cost of the apartment), there will be no other "good" criteria to optimize on,

And I advised strongly against going into this market, but hey, I'd love for you to try. Maybe you can figure out some way to solve everything else (but the roommate problem).

I know you advised me on this strongly, but I think I can do something with this space. Take a look at what exists now and tell me what is really different?

1. Rent.com makes you give you their email, then they proceed to spam you for a month.
2. Other sites suffer from too much information
3. Some sites suffer from too little information
4. Other sites try to take a more visual approach and try to create too much information for you to look at.
5. Still more sites try to do the same...with Flash

There is enough reason to get into this space. Having talked to quite a few folks out there who hunt for apartments, I can tell you this is frustrating because there are so many options, but none of these options do it very well.

I've never really thought about roommates though. People are going to find out who their roommates are before they usually move in. I'm trying to market this product to people who don't have problems finding a roommate or will find a roommate after they move in. If you can explain this further, I would love to listen.
